Schedule:
Students have class for 40-45 minutes one day a week, and are grouped according to ability level and instrument. Time of lessons are on a pull-out basis, but on rotating schedule, so students do not miss the same class each week. Instruction is always on the same day each week.

 Materials students need:

ALL INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC STUDENTS WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING:

____BOOK(S) : Do not put your name on the book until we can confirm that you have purchased the correct book.

1. First Year Strings (violin, viola, cello): String Basics (Book 1) Kjos Music Company
2. First Year - Woodwind, Brass, and Drums: LJ Hutchen Band Method  (Book 1) 

***ALL Second Year students will use their book from last year

_____ FOLDING MUSIC STAND---Bring this to your first lesson (with your name on it.)
*** This is essential for good posture, which in turn, promotes good playing. All students need a music stand!

____ ACCESSORIES:
Violin/ Viola: Rosin; 4 fine tuners (one per string); Foam Shoulder Rest- A Must!

Cello: Rosin; Rock stop or rubber tipped end pin ; 4 fine tuners (one per string)

Flute: Small handkerchief or cotton cloth for cleaning (between 4” and 6” square); Cleaning rod.

Clarinet / Saxophone: At least six reeds (#2 for beginners; #3 for advanced); tube of cork grease ; cleaning swab. Note: Parents should be prepared to get new reeds during the year because they wear out and chip easily. Students should keep only 3 reeds in their case at any time.

Trumpet: valve oil

Trombone: "Slide-O-Mix with small water spray bottle.

​​Baritone: valve oil

Percussion: Snare Drum,  Size SD1 sticks; Small/tuneable Remo practice pad; Concert Drum stand (adjustable to the student’s standing height.)

*** Please be careful when purchasing an instrument, It is always best, and safer, to purchase your instrument from an instrument retailer!

FYI: We supply school baritones if your child chooses to play this instrument.

Instrumental music is open to all 4th and 5th graders attending FCPS.

Instruction can be provided on any of the following instruments:

Strings-violin, viola and cello

Woodwinds-flute, clarinet and saxophone

Brass-trumpet, trombone and baritone

Percussion-snare drum
